The Barren Island VR Project is an immersive virtual reality experience designed to recreate India’s only active volcanic island with high visual fidelity and interactive elements. Developed for Uniconz Innovation, this project involved creating the VR environment from scratch using Unreal Engine and Blender, with Gaia used for terrain generation. The first version was optimized for standalone VR, while a later iteration focused on a more realistic recreation, packaged for PC VR with custom smooth locomotion and performance optimizations.
Developed for Uniconz Innovation The project was built to provide an engaging and visually accurate VR representation of Barren Island. The environment was designed with terrain sculpting, realistic textures, and optimized performance in mind. The second iteration refined the island’s details further, ensuring a more immersive and interactive experience. The final hand over version was packaged efficiently for PC VR, incorporating smooth locomotion for enhanced navigation.

“Step into the heart of India’s only active volcano—explore, experience, and uncover the raw beauty of Barren Island in virtual reality.”
The focus was on realism, performance, and user immersion. The VR environment was carefully designed with optimized assets and textures to maintain a balance between quality and performance. The first iteration delivered a standalone VR experience, while the second version improved realism and was packaged for PC VR. A custom smooth locomotion system was implemented to ensure fluid movement, making exploration more intuitive and engaging.
